What makes our donation platform distinct

At digiTAL we are spearheading a donor-centered platform that puts transparency and donor choice at the forefront while ensuring that some of the most vulnerable families in Lebanon get the help they need.

Unlike other donation platforms, digiTAL openly shares the socio-economic circumstances of families in need and allows donors to choose not just which family they want to support but also what kind of aid they want to give.

All money donated for food assistance will be used to purchase boxes of staple food and diapers and/or formula (if needed). These boxes include products such as rice, beans, pulses, pasta, flour, sugar, salt, oil, cheese, powdered milk, bread and local staples such as zaatar and tahini. Cash assistance goes directly to the families, allowing them the flexibility to cover their pressing needs, such as utility costs, rent, special food requirements, etc. Donations earmarked for medical assistance will be used to purchase medicine with a doctor’s prescription. The exchange rate used on this platform is based on the average market rate from the prior two months.

How it works

How are families selected

Given our team’s strong connections to the local community, we are aware of local families – both among the Lebanese and refugee populations – struggling to buy food and medicine. These families are personally vetted by our management team to identify their current resources and needs.

Why do we focus on families from North Lebanon? While much-needed funds have been raised to support the rebuilding after the Beirut blast, families in the North Governorate have continued to suffer from unemployment, hunger and some even losing their jobs as a result of the blast. The ongoing impact of the pandemic and lockdowns have left many without work and an income to cover their basic needs.

Communities in the North Governorate have often been ignored by policymakers in Beirut while unemployment, poverty, inflation and civil unrest have and continue to be higher in the North. The economic crisis is not expected to be resolved anytime soon either with the local currency losing its value on a daily basis, stagnant wages, increasing costs of energy, food and medicine.

While digiTAL supports families across Lebanon, the majority come from communities in North Lebanon.
